for photographers and creative souls

Hello, my lovely. How are you? It’s been a beat since we chatted.

Today, I wanted to share a few geeky things to watch out for during Amazon’s prime days. You can view all my Amazon favs HERE.

But I thought I’d share a few can’t-live-withouts and my recent favorite design/creativity books.

Printer

The HP Tango is on sale both in the US and Canada.
I love this beautiful, no-drama printer so much. And many of my creative community love it too!
Paired with an instant-ink plan, it’s an absolute win!!

Storage, oh, Storage

Storage isn’t the most exciting but for photographers and filmmakers. It’s a must!

I’m a big fan of external SSDs.
+no moving parts makes them more reliable.
+small and compact.
+much zipper than traditional EHDs.

Here are a few to watch for this week.

This one is the zippiest I’ve found.
Side note: avoid the 4TB of this brand. One of my clients tried 2, and they both died almost immediately after we set them up. It turns out it’s a known issue on the internet.

This one isn’t the zippiest, but it still has a nice speed rate.

This one by Samsung is also good, although maybe not as rugged.
Both are currently at an excellent price.

I’ve never tried this brand, but it has excellent reviews and is a close runner-up (speed-wise) to this one.
This brand also has excellent reviews.

If you’re curious, I own 4 of the 2TB Sandisk Extreme SSD and use them for my current workflow import through Lightroom as well as my film storage.
This keeps my Mac HD from filling up too quickly, and the speedy Extreme makes editing etc, in Lr a breeze.

Other techy Items to Watch

This light and compact tripod is drama-free (and no giant ball heads are required). I love her!

Suppose you find yourself constantly plugging and unplugging drives and devices; this solid and reliable dock will become your new best friend. I just could NOT live w/o it.

I put together an Amazon Prime Days watch list HERE.

Currently Reading …

Create by Ali Heath. Oh, my word. This is such an inspiring book. The photography, design, and artwork are stunning, and Ali’s ideas for mixing old and new … straight to my heart! Highly recommend.

Feel Free magazine by Leanne Ford. This is the 3rd volume. I’ve loved every issue.

The Creative Act by Rick Rubin. Musings on the creative life. I can open it to almost any page and find something to spark and inspire me to continue showing up.

The Blossoming of the World by Brian Peterson. This book has been on my shelf since 2011. But it wasn’t until recently that I took the time to start reading it. His words cause me to pause, go back, and read again. (and again).
Here is just one of many entries I’m in awe of.

Other Bits & Bobs in Today’s Photos

+Hangen Rack with movable concrete hooks.
+Perpetual calendar
+ceramic mug and bowl.
+this leather journal

Over to You

Tell me, what are you ‘watching’ for Prim days?

And to my Canadian friends, I’m working on a link list for Amazon.ca
In the meantime, feel free to drop a comment if you’d like me to send you the Amazon.ca link for any of the items I’ve listed.

Here’s to a beautiful week ahead.

A Reading from Blossoming of the World

I need to work slowly and deliberately now.
Volume is not important, but every image must be focused, concentrated.

Its reason for existence must be clear, and its execution must be equally clear. This kind of clarity takes patience. Images, ideas, feelings are turned over, slowly, mediately. You can’t be sure at the beginning which ones will take root and flower.

They won’t do this unless they are tended (ie. attention must be paid, work must be done). But with too much attention, the flowers might be pulled up with the weeds.
It’s another one of those zen-like paradoxes —you have to work on things, and you have to leave things alone.
