You know how some people enjoy talking about themselves? : )
Well…I gotta say….I’m not one of them….
In fact… I live in a tiny town of 1100 people….and pretty much the only way people know/hear what I do….is through google….
I rarely talk about it in real life.
With all that said …..I completely… LOVE what I do…..
Seeing as you clicked About Me…. I best get to it.
I’m 48…. married… for almost 26 years.
I have 2 boys; Brett and Bryce….26 and 24…..and the most BEAUTIFUL golden doodle boy, Ben.
(he’s the love of my life….and I’m serious.)
We live in an antique 110 year old brick house… the very house I told my friend (when I was maybe 12ish) I would live in one day …….. with Ben and sometimes the boys….they seem to come and goes as young men do……
My parents live across the street (they moved in a few years ago after retirement).
Last year we bought the old newspaper building downtown and converted it into my beautiful studio.
It’s been exciting…and a bit scary….all at once.
Let me rewind a bit……
3 years ago my husband was diagnosed with leukaemia. Overnight we had to move 3 hours from home for 8 months while he went through his treatment. Let’s just say, it was quite the test…. but we made it to the other side…… John is in remission and finally starting to feel more like his pre-cancer self.
John was off work for 2 1/2 years after his treatment (as I type this… I’m thinking….. 2 1/2 years…. where did that time go?)
Anyhow….. I found myself…. needing a space to work/create and just be…. Enter The Studio….. What a blessing.
Oh, let me rewind a little further back…. 8 years or so…..
About 8 years ago I was a folk artist…. working in the licensing and print industry. You can still find my work on prints, fabric and wall decor.
Around that time, we went through a very difficult few years with our son …… basically I shut down. I quit painting…. I just couldn’t….
I sat in fear and waited for the next awful thing to happen….. Eventually the (almost) worst happened…..
Thankfully we survived and eventually picked up the pieces.
A few months later, my camera called to me. I took it with me on a walk….
I came home, loaded the images into photoshop, added some texture….and somehow…..my whole world was transformed…..
Pretty much with a click.
I poured my whole self into learning photography, photoshop, textures, blogging and eventually teaching online…..
I am now a life style photographer/stylist, in love with Lightroom ….
I live to teach and share it with the world.
My images make my life look pretty dreamy…. but I gotta be honest…. at times…it’s far from that.
My son is still living with his illness, my husband is unable to work, and Me…well, here I am….a bread winning Mama….
Grateful for this gig…. but at times a little overwhelmed.
Still photography allows me to see, breathe and be still…. Photography saved me.
I believe my photos reflect peace ……because I truly am 100% ‘calm’ when I’m shooting stills.
Sometimes it’s the same moments that take your breath away that breathe purpose and love back into your life.
