NOTE: If you are not a Creative Cloud subscriber, all is as it should be. Carry on, my lovely. You’re good!
On April 3rd, Adobe released Lr Classic CC 7.3 and Lr CC 1.3
The update included some significant changes to Lightroom Develop presets.
The Changes
In previous versions of Lightroom, develop presets had the .lrtemplate file extension and they were stored in a specific Lr folder for develop presets.
Lr Classic 7.3 and Lr CC 1.3 develop presets now have the .xmp file extension. They are now compatible with Photoshop Adobe Camera Raw.
Presets in Lr Classic 7.3 and later are stored in the Camera Raw settings folder.
Presets in Lightroom CC 1.3 and later are stored within the Lightroom Library (.lrlibrary
) file.
Along with some pretty fab updates…came a few preset glitches.
If you have .lrtemplate
presets installed and then update to Lightroom Classic 73, your presets will automatically be converted to .xmp
and added to the Camera Raw Settings folder.
The .lrtemplate
presets are left in place for access in older Lr versions.
Presets in Lightroom CC 1.3 and later are stored within the Library
Updating Presets to XMP
The first time you open Lr Classic 7.3 all of your existing presets are automatically converted to XMP

The Good News
Photoshop users rejoice! You can now use your presets inside Camera Raw.
(more on all this in upcoming Lab Hours)
The Not so Good News
The collection preset order is a bit of a mess.
With the conversion of the .lrtemplate preset files to .xmp the preset order went a little askew.
The Better News
I’m currently updating my .xmp preset collections to their former neat, tidy and best-sense order.
Almost done.
