I’m on a mission to lighten the competition amongst artists…..coming from a place of creativity rather than competition.
The world is a much prettier place when we choose to celebrate our own art…and the art of others we adore….
I heard something a little bit ago about… creative competition…and jealousy.
It went something like….
Rather than holding onto jealousy…letting it boil up and over…. or worse yet….eat us up inside….
Why not LET IT GO…flip it…..by simply celebrating it….OUT LOUD…..
with comments like…
‘Oh my gosh…. I wish I thought of that… or I am so in awe of your art…. It’s amazing’…….and so on.
before long….. those jealous, less-than, competitive feelings aren’t nearly so yucky….
What do you say? YES?!?
Heidi O’Rourke (@moszas)
Today I’m featuring the amazing art of @moszas Heidi O’Rourke.
Heidi has the most amazing collection of props and drops…..So many beautiful pieces…..
and she pulls them together in the most brilliant of ways…..
Welcome Heidi… So happy you are here.
Tell us a wee bit about yourself, Heidi.
Hello, I’m Heidi. I live on a couple of acres about 1 hour out of Sydney.
I have always had a love for anything old, vintage or rustic and our home reflects that. I enjoy being creative when I have the time and that can involve anything from re-arranging the house, building a new garden, designing a chicken coup to getting on the sewing machine.
Together with my husband we own and run a busy smash repair business.
We both love the great outdoors and spend a lot of weekends in the bush, 4WDing, bushwalking, foraging, fishing or kicking back around a bonfire.
Could you tell us about the gear you use to take/make your lovely photos…and what inspires you?
All my photos are taken with my IPhone 5s and I mostly use Vsco or Snapseed to edit them. For me it’s more about the subject rather than the quality of the pic. I definately don’t consider myself a photographer, in fact up until a couple of years ago I was the one you DIDNT want taking your pic ….guaranteed I’d capture only half your head!
At least I have improved in that department!
Please Share one of your favourite photos…. along with a little behind the scenes info?
I took the above pic one afternoon on our veranda at home during autumn. It’s one of my favourite spots for capturing stills, it always has wonderful natural light but no direct sunlight. And the white timber coffee table always makes for a nice simple background.
Could you tell us a bit about you Instagram Experience?
Instagram – best invention ever! I first found out about it a couple of years ago and quickly got hooked! So many inspiring people that I have connected with on there. I feel like I have made some real friendships yet I’ve never met most of these people.
Could you share a few of your favourite IG artists? Who inspires you?
I follow hundreds of people on instagram, they all inspire me one way or another so it’s very hard to list my favourites. Here are just a few….
@mich_woods, @mrandmrscharlie, @mysuburbanfarm, @paulinaarcklin, @florencebouvier, @lyndagardener, @raw_milano
Heidi, before we say goodbye, please tell us one completely random fact about you?
One random fact …that’s difficult! ….Ok, I like collecting bones, I have loads of baskets and containers full of them. I only collect ones I find in the bush, and preferably the old sunbleached ones, I would absolutely never kill anything!
Thank you for sharing your gorgeous art and inspiration Heidi…..
My goodness you have the BEST collections…..
To visit Heidi pop over to her Instagram stream @mozsas…. You will not be disappointed.
My Still Sunday
I host a weekly tag on IG, called #mystillsundaycompetition. To play along tag your IG image with @kimklassen and include the hashtag #mystillsundaycompetition in the comments. This automatically enters your photo(s) in the Still Sunday pool.
Each Wednesday I feature a few of the lovely images both here and over on Instagram. (Sorry but you do need to have Instagram on a device in order to play along.) Until next time…here’s to a week full of inspiration and moments to breathe and just be.
