if someone told the younger me…Listen, here’s what’s ahead…
‘your son is going to discover alcohol and drugs at 15. you’ll quit designing, paralyzed by fear.
after the ‘almost-worst’ happens, you’ll survive, pick yourself up.
discover photography, become obsessed, start an online business.
John will get cancer, moving you 3 hours from home (for 8 months). You and Bryce will live in a too-close-for-comfort apartment while driving back and forth to the hospital to see John.
All the while, feeling like you abandoned your oldest son, needing to depend more than ever on your parents (and so many others).
eventually you’ll find your way home and pick up the pieces. somewhere in there, build the studio of your dreams.
John will start back to work.
Bryce will go to rehab for the cost of a degree. (only to start drinking again a few weeks later.)
Fast forward a bit… Bryce will get sober, and turn his life around (the stuff of miracles).
Things will seem good….til they’re not.
John will develop GVHD (a stem-cell transplant risk). you’ll move back to the city again….eventually they’ll have to amputate his leg….
It’s there (who am i kidding it’d be sooner) … I’d probably scream STOP, not another word….
and they’d say…
‘Listen, it’ll be tough, but you’re going to be ok. I promise.’
I wonder, if I knew all that… would I have followed my dreams?
What if I choose the safe and predictable path? I’d never get to do ‘all this’…or spend 8 months with John and back again…
and, and, and….
Thank goodness we can’t see what’s ahead. Right?
Would I change anything?
Hmm…I wish things were different for John… and I’ve made my fair share of mistakes…but, all of this has lead us to here….
so grateful for that.
I love this quote.
You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.” ― Steve Jobs
Bryce’s journey led me to mine….to this work I get to do from this most amazing space each and every day.
John’s cancer allowed me to grow and become stronger than I knew was possible.
So many dots….have lead to now. Amongst all that…there were even dreams coming true…
So I gotta say, no regrets.
How ’bout you, my lovely? I bet you too can connect the dots!
Today, I’m here to ask you…what dreams are whispering to you?
Have you reached a certain age, stage… Maybe dreaming feels distant, unrealistic maybe impossible.
Do you feel stuck in the every day of life? What might you do, if your dream could be true?
Would you, could you?
OH, how I hope so….cause you just never know…
Tell me, what dream is waiting for you?
