I was watching the Ellen Show and Justin Timberlake was a guest. He was talking about his golden doodle.
I thought to myself… ‘Oh my goodness one day I’ll have a golden doodle.’
Fast forward a year later… an email landed in my inbox.
A group mail from my cousin in Winnipeg.
‘hey, guys I’m looking for a home for my golden doodle Bear. I’m at work all day and he’s slowly destroying the house. I love him so much but I can’t give him what he needs.’
My first thought was absolutely not.
We’d lost our beagle Andy just a few months before. Getting a new dog seemed like a betrayal.
But, I kept thinking of ‘Bear’, and my golden doodle dream and couldn’t let it go.
A Conversation with My Husband
Me: ‘John, Tamara’s looking for a home for her golden doodle and you know how I said someday I want a golden doodle.’
John: ‘Yes. Does he shed?
Me: ‘I’ll check with Tamara.’
I sent an email off to Tamara and asked her if ‘Bear’ shed.
T: ‘a little, but not a lot.’
Me: ‘Ok, so she said he doesn’t shed a lot.’
John: ‘What does that mean. A little or a lot?’
me: ‘I’m sure he barely sheds. He’s a golden doodle.’
I think we’d like to adopt ‘Bear.’
Tamara wrote back to say, she was having second thoughts.
I told myself, maybe it just wasn’t meant to be.
A few days later another email.
‘Ok, I think I’m ready to let Bear go.’
I asked for a trial and she agreed.
A few days later we met my cousin at a gas station on the WINDIEST day ever.
As we pulled up, she opened the car door and out came ‘Bear’.
fur flying EVERYWHERE.
John: ‘I thought he didn’t shed.’
Me: ‘He sure is cute.’
It was love at first sight.
All the bad habits he’d picked up home alone …. NON-EXISTENT.
All he needed was company 24/7.
And he’s had that ever since. We never leave him alone.
Thanks to my parents, the boys, me working from home, John now at home.
We’re able to make it work. He’s never home (or anywhere) alone.
This boy was first a thought.
This boy saved my life.
This is Ben.
(our very golden-y doodle that looks more like a lab cause we keep his coat groomed).
Almost 10 years later, he’s still one of the best thoughts I ever had.
What might you dare to think …
What if… ‘this’ could be true? Then watch it unfold as you move toward?
