Photographing Fading Peonies & Petals
Day 15 of 31 Days of Blogging / More Fill the Frame Peonies
With a short shooting window before I had to zip home, I placed some linen in the magic light and grabbed my Nikon.
Click.
”Wait, I need to zhuzh/joosh/? that centre peony a wee bit.”
With barely a touch the peonies fell apart.
Plan B / Fill the frame with faded peonies and petals.
I love a fill--the-frames. Especially fill-the-frames with peonies.
They stand beautifully on their own as well as paired in a diptych.
I shared a few of the first fill-the-frames and edits in yesterday’s post.
I would have loved to keep shooting. Different angles, lenses and so on but it was time for home.
So rather than throw all the pretty petals away…here’s a quick video on what I did instead.
Here are some of the many photos I took in the evening light after I made this video.
I placed a piece of foam core on the floor (in the light), draped it with linen and scattered the petals and a few faded peony over the linen.
The foam core made it easy to pick up the scattered frame and shoot in the different pockets of light around the studio.
If I had to pick a favourite ‘thing’ to photograph and EDIT, peonies might be it.
The possibilities seem limitless.
If you had to pick.
What’s your favourite subject to photograph or edit?
BOTH?
I’d love to know.
