A Gift from a Friend, Beautiful Words, Nikons for Sale and a Lightroom Tutorial

A Little Bit of Everything.

It has been a rather cloudy weekend, but after experiencing the most incredible See the Sun week, I shall not complain. And if I'm being completely honest, I appreciated the opportunity to stay snug under the covers for a bit longer these past few days.

As Ben and I were heading to the studio yesterday morning, a thought came in. With the sky covered in clouds (AKA giant softbox), why not take a drive to the lake?
So, instead of turning right, we turned left and made our way to the serene and completely deserted campground by the lake.

As we wandered through the site, I thought I must collect some of the beautiful fall leaves.
So we jumped back in the car, zipped back to the studio, and grabbed this beautiful vintage suitcase.
A gift from my friend Aeleen for my 50th birthday. The gift tag is still attached.
Aeleen has the most amazing way with words. I mean seriously. ♡

(I’m thinking a full-on photo shoot with this would be amazing,)

That was yesterday, and then today, Aeleen popped into my Insta DM’s and said,
oh, I must share a beautiful Mary Oliver quote with you.”
I read it and instantly knew I had to share it with you.

Here goes.

My work is loving the world.
Here the sunflowers, there the hummingbird -
equal seekers of sweetness.
Here the quickening yeast; there the blue plums.
Here the clam deep in the speckled sand.

Are my boots old? Is my coat torn?
Am I no longer young and still not half-perfect?

Let me keep my mind on what matters, which is my work, which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished.
The phoebe, the delphinium.
The sheep in the pasture, and the pasture.
Which is mostly rejoicing, since all ingredients are here,

Which is gratitude, to be given a mind and a heart
and these body-clothes,
a mouth with which to give shouts of joy
to the moth and the wren, to the sleepy dug-up clam,
telling them all, over and over, how it is
that we live forever.

The Messenger by Mary Oliver

This line gave me a full-body shiver.
Let me keep my mind on what matters, which is my work, which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished.

Keep my mind on what matters…mostly standing still and learning to be astonished.

Isn’t that the most amazingly beautiful line?
Learning to be astonished. Yes! Yes!

Thank you, dear Aeleen, for sharing these words with me. ♡
Aeleen is quiet on Insta of late, but as I popped over to grab a link to her beautiful account, I re-read her most recent (not too recent) post.
It took me right back to that time I’ll cherish with my dear friend forever.

Lightroom Chromatic Abberation Tutorial

Last but not least,
I was editing yesterday’s lake photos, and a few had some nasty chromatic aberration. (not pretty)
I understand that chromatic aberration may not be the most exciting topic, but it's best to avoid it in your photos if at all possible.
Give me 6 minutes to walk you through it.
