The 'Aesthetic' of Text: Why It’s More Than Looks
Not just the words—but the rhythm, space, and breath between them.
I’m obsessed with aesthetic.
Imagery, branding, white space—the small, intentional choices that make something feel the way it does. Even when they go unnoticed, they shape the experience.
The gurus will say: It’s not about the visuals. It’s the content. Content is everything.
But for me? I can’t have one without the other.
Even simple text has to feel right.
The way a sentence lands… where the eye pauses… the rhythm of bold, soft, and spacious. These tiny choices shape the way people feel when they read.
And they’re not random. They’re very much intentional.
My Tiny Choices for Digital Text
1. Bolds for emphasis
Some words deserve weight.
Not every word. Just the ones that hold the rhythm.
+ Short phrases stand out. Key ideas settle in.
2. Italics for softness
There’s a difference between saying something—
and saying something.
Italics add a whisper, a side thought, a shift in tone.
+The smallest change… but you feel it.
3. Ellipses… em dashes —
They change the pace. They create a pause or a break.
Used well, they guide the reader’s eye.
+ A thought that trails off… or lands with intention.
4. White space is structure
Not every sentence belongs in a paragraph.
Some need their own line.
Like this.
Because space is part of the message.
5. Sentence fragments for rhythm.
A full sentence? Proper. Complete.
But sometimes… a snippet is better.
A shift. A drop. A moment.
It makes writing feel alive.
None of these are rules.
Just small ways to shape a voice that feels like me.

AI has powered our creative tools for years—Photoshop, Lightroom, even our camera apps. Now, it’s more hands-on. And while AI isn’t the artist, it can save us so much time.
